Tonight, DMPD entrapped and illegally detained up to 20 of our non-violent supporters. From organizers, to medics, and even food suppliers - our people were targeted and arrested as they obeyed orders. The actions of DMPD - although not surprising - were hyper-militaristic, tyrannical, and were a direct violation of our human rights. According to the ACLU - “after police issue a dispersal order, they must provide a reasonable opportunity to comply, including sufficient time and a clear unobstructed exit path.” DMPD did not comply with the law and instead issued a dispersal order with no clear, unobstructed exit path, or time provided to disperse. Our supporters were surrounded, encircled, chased, and assaulted by DMPD while attempting to legally disperse. Necessary legal actions will be taken against this unjust conduct.
